Garden Store: Deserter

The second part of a saga Garden Store. It’s an intimate, tragic family portrait set in the midst of turbulent historical events. It is 1947. Camp survivor Otto returns to his wife and son, and without losing much time quickly reopens his family business: the “Valentino” hair salon. At first, there is no sign of his wartime trauma or impaired health but this idyll does not last long. His rebellious assistant, a young communist, decides to take over Otto’s salon, which he manages to do with the help of the party, and therefore Otto, his wife and her sisters become his employees. For the second time in his life, Otto experiences a final catastrophe. Karlík, his young son, tries to take revenge on the authorities but it takes on an almost grotesque form, and even worse, he brings even more misfortune on his family.
